What is ODS?
ODS (OpenDocument Spreadsheet) is an open standard format for spreadsheets, part of the OpenDocument Format (ODF) family. Based on XML and ZIP compression, ODS is an ISO standard (ISO/IEC 26300) ensuring long-term accessibility and interoperability without vendor lock-in.
Used primarily by LibreOffice and OpenOffice, ODS supports formulas, charts, macros, and rich formatting. It's the preferred format for government and public sector organizations requiring open standards.
History
ODS was developed as part of the OpenDocument Format initiative to create open standards for office documents. It became an ISO standard in 2006, ensuring vendor neutrality and long-term document preservation.
